The Nuts grabbed a win, 5-4, at John Thurman Field, overcoming a fine effort from Bakersfield pitcher Stan Valentine. Valentine went 5.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Eric White earned the save for Modesto, his 2nd of the year. The loss makes Bakersfield 7-4.

Had Chet Fleming not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Fleming hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Nuts.
