Stockton pitcher Steve Russell did his part in helping his team beat the Modesto Nuts, 5-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Russell yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 11. His record improves to 1-0. Joey Henderson earned the save, his 4th, for the Ports.
Rubén Jiménez dealt the Nuts a blow in the bottom of the second. Batting with the bases loaded and Stockton leading 1-0, Jiménez hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Russell.
Modesto is now 1-4.
