Klinger Excels, West Michigan Wins Round 1 Game 1
The West Michigan Whitecaps started the Round 1 in style, downing the visiting Bowling Green Hot Rods at Fifth Third Ballpark by a score of 9-7 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Whitecaps right-hander Kay Klinger threw 5.0 innings of 4-hit ball.

West Michigan catcher Jorge Colon helped the Whitecaps go up, 7-6, in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the game tied, Colon hit a run-scoring double off Bowling Green pitcher Mike Barry.

"That was a really good outing by Kay," said West Michigan manager Bo Porter.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids.
