Aberdeen Nerve Tested in 7-6 Win
Crowds lined up early in front of Ripken Stadium, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2025 New York-Penn League season. On the mound was José Zamora for the visiting Tri-City ValleyCats and Tony Martínez for the hometown Aberdeen Ironbirds. In a spirited contest, the Ironbirds pulled out the win, defeating the ValleyCats by the score of 7-6. Especially impressive was Jim O'Reilly. Ken Smith, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1 innings.

Manny Ortíz was the walk-off hero for Aberdeen. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Ironbirds left fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"Enough drama for you?" winked Ironbirds manager Lamarr Rogers after the game.
