Smith, Blaze Take Dramatic Game 3 for 2-1 Series Lead
The Bakersfield Blaze nearly wasted a strong game from starter Greg Smith, but were saved by some timely hitting in a 19th inning walk-off win over the San Jose Giants today.

Smith pitched well in the 3-2 win at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. He threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs. The win allowed Bakersfield to seize a 2-1 lead in the best-of-5 Round 1.

Batting in the bottom of the 19th, 20-year old first baseman Terence Tinker had a real shot to win the game. San Jose pitcher Rob Schroeder was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Tinker hit a run-scoring single. The Blaze had a walk-off triumph.

Tinker called the win "a lesson in teamwork."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark in Bakersfield.
