Bakersfield Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in R2
|
The Bakersfield Blaze got an exceptional performance from starter Greg Smith, who silenced the Rancho Cucamonga offense en route to a 4-0 shutout win in Game 3 of the Round 2. The Quakes could never get a bead on the right-handed Smith, who threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball. The Blaze now hold a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-7 series.
Smith was dominant for Bakersfield. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits, while racking up 8 strikeouts. He threw 123 pitches over 8 innings in the contest.
"The competition leap this year was tough to adjust to and I feel like there has been another jump in the playoffs," said Smith, a rookie this season. "You're only playing the best now and everyone has time to rest and prepare for you."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark in Bakersfield.
