Richmond Flying Squirrels starter Mike Thompson pitched his team past the Altoona Curve, 5-1. The winner was Thompson. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Jud Clayton. Pete Bryan, credited with the save, is now 31 for 32 in save opportunities.

Richmond center fielder Ignacio López contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a changeup to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 82nd hit of the season and put the Flying Squirrels ahead, 3-1.

"Mike throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said Richmond manager Mike Sarbaugh.

With the win, Richmond has a record of 77-61. Altoona falls to 66-72.
