Steve Thompson pitched well, but his team, the Binghamton Mets, still dropped a 2-1 decision to the Richmond Flying Squirrels at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. The win for the Flying Squirrels lifted their record to 75-63.

Richmond won the game because of players like Chris Gibson. The 26-year-old left fielder had a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third, putting his team up, 2-1.

"You don't always need a lot of runs to win," said Gibson. "Sometimes you need just one or two."
