The Richmond Flying Squirrels could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Joe Barker into a win. Instead, the Altoona Curve prevailed, 2-1. Barker threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Jared Smiley snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Juan Carlos Hernández suffered the loss. Edwin Diaz converted his 4th save in 4 tries.

Jorge Cabrera had a direct impact on the outcome. Cabrera contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Altoona up, 2-1.

"Tough loss," said Richmond manager Mike Sarbaugh. "This one will sting for a while."

With the win over Richmond, the Curve improved to 66-71.
