Baysox 6-4 Winners Over Richmond
|
A good performance from catcher Joey Bennett helped the Bowie Baysox defeat the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 6-4. Bennett went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Baysox. Darío Vargas, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-2. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Tony Martínez was credited with the save, his 9th in 13 tries.
Scot Smith had a big 2-run double for the Baysox in the bottom of the second inning. With Bowie leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a screwball from Ernesto Varela and swatted a double to left. It was his 21st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Baysox ahead, 4-1.
"Pleased with the effort and the win," said Baysox manager Jack McDowell.
The Bowie win streak is now 3 games.
