Reading turned a good effort from starter Chip Patrick into a win over the Akron RubberDucks at Canal Park. The final score was 3-1. Patrick picked up the win for Reading, going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 6-7. The second-place Fightin Phils have won 4 straight.
Tyler O'Neill came through with a big-time hit for Reading. The left fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Chip pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said Reading manager Shaun Larkin.
