Reading left fielder Doug Reese played a vital role in his team's 8-4 conquest of Binghamton. He was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs for Reading. Dave Steward picked up the win, improving his season record to 7-3. He struck out 6 in 7 innings. With the win, Reading upped its record to 31-29.

Reading used a well-timed hit by Steve Stanley to capture the win. The second baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Fightin Phils ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Binghamton manager Chris Tremie.
