The New Orleans Zephyrs beat the Iowa Cubs, 7-1, at Principal Park. New Orleans first baseman Jeff Edwards had an outstanding performance. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. António Fontanez earned his 13th save in 17 chances. By defeating Iowa, the last-place Zephyrs improved to 63-77.

New Orleans used the timely hitting of Jerry Wilson to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Zephyrs on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Wilson told a New Orleans Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
