The home team was supported by a raucous crowd at Werner Park.
Omaha starter Thom Mercer put a stranglehold on the Iowa offense. The right-hander had complete command of his cutter in leading the Storm Chasers to a 2-1 win. Omaha occupies third place in the American Conference North Division at 59-67.
Nelson Gomez did the little things right to help the team for Omaha. The 27-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring strikeout off Virgil Peterson. It was his 35th RBI of the season.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Iowa manager Gera Alvarez said, following the tough loss.
