Tacoma shortstop Travis Nelligan was sensational. He was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. El Paso beat the Rainiers, 6-5. The winner in relief was Dave Hill. He is now 2-0. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. Don Scott sewed up the save, his 4th.
Darrel Nijland drove in one run for El Paso. The 25-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Edgardo Leon. It was his 18th RBI of the season.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said El Paso manager Andy Hayes.
The win elevated the Chihuahuas to 36-22.
