The New Orleans Zephyrs withstood an impressive performance by Round Rock designated hitter Clarence Bates to defeat the Express, 4-3, at Zephyr Field. Bates went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Ignacio Fulgham went 7 innings for New Orleans to pick up the win. The left-hander was charged with 3 runs. He scattered 9 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. His record improves to 2-2. The Express, 10-11, continue their so-so start to the 2025 season.
The Zephyrs got a big at-bat from catcher Ira Jackson. For the game, Jackson went 1-2 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave New Orleans a 4-3 lead.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Round Rock manager Ben Petrick. "But we decided not to take it."
