The Colorado Springs Sky Sox got a sterling performance from pitcher Randy Smith, but the Sacramento River Cats still prevailed, 6-3. Smith threw 6.2 innings of 1-hit ball. Ron Smith notched his 7th save of the season. Early on, the River Cats, at 12-5, have played an impressive brand of baseball.

Steve Norrish came through with a big-time hit for Sacramento. The designated hitter smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
