Flying Squirrels Take Down SeaWolves, 5-3
|
The Richmond Flying Squirrels overcame a good performance by Erie left fielder Jim Duffy to knock off Erie, 5-3, at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. Duffy was 3-4 with 3 singles. Jimmy Tirney, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-0. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 8 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 0 and walking 4. The win puts Richmond at 4-1.
Right Fielder Jorge Morales made an impact for Richmond, when he swatted a run-scoring triple off Sam McClure in the bottom of the fifth. For the contest, Morales went 1 for 5 with a triple.
Richmond manager Mike Sarbaugh commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
