Curve Pull Out Late-Game Win, 2-1
|
Altoona overcame a superior effort from Ed Jacobs to beat Akron, 2-1. The Akron pitcher threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball. Ernesto Paredes picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Jake Cushingham was tagged with the loss. Today's win puts Altoona at 20-19, while Akron falls to 17-22.
Altoona took a 2-1 lead on Tony Cruz's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Cruz hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Akron pitcher Jake Cushingham visibly frustrated.
Cruz said his team "played with a purpose."
