Nationals Hand Cincinnati 12-5 Loss
|
Oscar Hernandez was a major contributor to the 12-5 Washington win over Cincinnati. The Nationals catcher was 3-5 with 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Joey Gatto, who is on pace for 200 strikeouts this season, was the winner. He's now 10-6. The loser was Walt Sharpe. Washington raised its record to 58-45 with the win.
Miguel Sano had a big 2-run home run for the Nationals in the bottom of the second inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Walt Sharpe, who is tied for 5th in the NL in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 17th home run of the season, which put the Nationals on top, 3-0.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Hernandez.
