Fans of the Binghamton Mets who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Binghamton win over the visiting New Britain Rock Cats, 7-4. Joe Collins started for the home team against Mitch Galloway. Joe Collins earned accolades for his performance. In 6.2 innings, Collins surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 11 and walking 6. He allowed 1 run. Dave Hall earned the save for Binghamton, his 1st of the year.

Jean Carlos Arias had a big bases-clearing triple for the Mets in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Binghamton leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from Pancho Espinoza and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 5-0.

"Good, gritty kind of win," said Mets manager Chris Tremie.
