The 22-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Frederick Keys worries.

Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Conan Myers seemed like a risky move for the Keys, but it was one of the few things that went right at Harry Grove Stadium. Myers tossed 8 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Frederick dropped a 1-0 decision. With the win, Myrtle Beach took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Round 2.

Had Ken Hamilton not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases empty, Hamilton hit a solo home run. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Pelicans.

Myrtle Beach manager Jose Lobaton commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick.
