Raucous Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium Crowd Propels Cubs to 6-2 Victory; Series Tied at 2
|
The South Bend Cubs and the West Michigan Whitecaps will take the Round 1 to a decisive 5th game. In a must-win situation, the Cubs beat the Whitecaps, 6-2, at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. South Bend shortstop Hugh Porter was 5-5 with 3 doubles and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI.
Porter had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, when he hit a 2-run double. The Cubs went on to win.
Porter called the win "an overall solid one."
Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday at Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids.
