Despite a fine performance by third baseman Jerry Richards, the Clinton LumberKings lost to the Peoria Chiefs, 9-4. Richards went 3-4 with a home run, a triple, and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Peoria reliever José Vargas snagged the win, upping his record to 4-5. Ismael Acosta shouldered the loss. The win puts Peoria at 77-62 this season.

Jonathon Grimes hit a 2-run double off Ismael Acosta in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Chiefs in front, 6-4. In addition to the double, Grimes had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 4.

"We came out aggressive," said Chiefs manager Phil Nevin. "We came out swinging the bats."
