Cedar Rapids beat Kane County at Veterans Memorial Stadium, eking out a 5-4 win. The triumph was primarily due to shortstop Luis Hernández. He was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Cedar Rapids is now 78-61, Kane County 54-85.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Hernández hit a changeup from Steve Kelly for a run-scoring single. The Kernels, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
