Timber Rattlers Bash Kernels, 13-1
|
Cristián Fernández was instrumental in his team's 13-1 triumph over the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The left fielder was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 6 for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Sandro Lwenholm picked up his 1st save of the season. With the win over Cedar Rapids, the Timber Rattlers improved to 64-74.
With Wisconsin leading 9-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Fernández came up to bat against Cedar Rapids pitcher Steve Wilson. Fernández hit a fastball to right for a grand slam home run. His 5th home run of the season put the Timber Rattlers on top, 13-1.
"Not the preferred outcome," Cedar Rapids manager George Trenwith said, when asked afterward about the game.
