Kernels Earn Late 6-5 Win
The Cedar Rapids Kernels weathered a fine game by Kane County shortstop Ed Waller to upend the Cougars, 6-5, at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Waller went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2. Cedar Rapids reliever Josh Peterson picked up the win, upping his record to 8-7. Jerry Rhodes was saddled with the loss. The win puts Cedar Rapids at 77-60 this season.

Mickael Gentil was the walk-off hero for Cedar Rapids. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Kernels shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"It's great when the crowd gets into it," Gentil said.
