Bees Fall Short, 2-1, at Clinton
|
In a tight tilt between the Clinton LumberKings and the Burlington Bees, Stan Valentine was the deciding factor. The Clinton right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Valentine, now 16-6, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The first-place LumberKings, at 79-56, lead the Western Division by 2 games.
The LumberKings got a big at-bat from left fielder Steve Bender. For the game, Bender was 1 for 3 with a home run. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Clinton a 2-1 lead.
"I just tried to focus on getting that first guy out every inning," said Valentine.
