Chicago shortstop Dan Downing had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Downing went 4-4 with a double and 3 singles, even as Chicago beat the White Sox, 6-4. Nick Travieso picked up the win, lifting his record to 3-1 on the season. He struck out 3 and walked 3 in 6.1 innings, while yielding 3 runs. Picking up the save was Orlando Romero, his 10th.

Franklin Barreto provided a timely hit. The Chicago second baseman delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cubs on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Barreto. "You've got to get results."

The third-place White Sox now sit at 24-21.
