Murray Helps Pirates Defeat Phillies, 10-4
|
Due in large part to right fielder Dave Murray, the Pittsburgh Pirates sunk the Philadelphia Phillies, 10-4. Murray was 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 times and drove in 6. Luis Gallegos was the winner. Over 6 innings, he yielded 4 runs on 6 hits, with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. Pittsburgh is 20-24 and Philadelphia, with the loss, 29-15.
Pittsburgh used the timely hitting of Jeremy Bowen to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pirates on top, 7-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Said Pittsburgh manager Jose Mijares: "We squared some balls up."
