Connecticut Draws First Blood in Round 2 With 3-1 Win
|
The 22-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Williamsport Crosscutters worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Dave Blackburn seemed like a risky move for the Crosscutters, but it was one of the few things that went right at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium today. Blackburn tossed 8 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Williamsport dropped a 3-1 decision. With the win, Connecticut took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Round 2.
Oliver Matos dealt the Crosscutters a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Connecticut leading 1-0, Matos hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring single.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Matos.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium in Norwich.
