Riding the 3-hit performance of the 23-year old shortstop Augusto Espinoza, the Tri-City ValleyCats stopped the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 7-1. Steve Quero, now 3-1, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The ValleyCats saw their win-loss record go to 28-39. At the same time, the Scrappers fell to 25-42.

Tri-City needed the clutch hitting of Jon Richardson to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the ValleyCats on top, 2-1. For the game, Richardson had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"It was a tough night at the plate," said Mahoning Valley manager Anthony Recker.
