The Connecticut Tigers used the hitting of first baseman Ted Garland to subdue the State College Spikes, 6-4. For the game, Garland was 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. Juan Martínez earned the win. Jim Sandberg took the loss for State College. The Tigers lead the Stedler Division by 8½ games.

With Connecticut trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Garland hit a 2-run single off State College hurler Jim Sandberg. It was the 8th hit of the season for Garland and put his team ahead, 3-2.

In postgame comments to the Connecticut Chronicle, Garland said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
