Spikes Win Another One, 9-7
The inspired effort of Connecticut center fielder Pete Yates was not enough to prevent a loss, 9-7, to the State College Spikes. Yates was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Early on, the Spikes, at 12-3, have put the pedal to the metal.

The Spikes beat the Tigers in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Jared Rhodes produced in the bottom of the seventh. Batting against Pancho Sosa, Rhodes gave his team the lead, 7-6, when he hit a run-scoring single.

"We're playing like gangbusters right now," said Rhodes.
