The West Virginia Black Bears got a strong performance from pitcher Mike McClure, who stymied the Auburn offense en route to a win, 2-1, at Russell Diethrick Park. West Virginia goes to 2-0.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with the game tied, Lou Lemus was at the plate when West Virginia scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Black Bears to go in front, 2-1.

"Time to decompress after a tough win," said McClure.
