Asheville Gets 9-4 Road Win
The Asheville Tourists defeated the Rome Firebirds, 9-4, in South Atlantic League action at State Mutual Stadium. Asheville pitcher Greg Smith had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Smith, now 1-0. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. The win for the Tourists raised their record to 66-64.

The Tourists had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the sixth. The score was 7-1, Asheville, with no one out. Rome, with runners on 1st and 2nd, was mounting a threat. José González dug in at the plate, but on a 1-2 sinker, he struck out.
