The rain did not keep Savannah and West Virginia from finishing their game.

No one was more impactful than Tim Simpson in the 21-5 Savannah win over West Virginia. Simpson, who is tied for 9th in the SAL in extra base hits with 45, was 4 for 5 with 2 triples, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. Zach Fields picked up the win, improving his season record to 6-4. He struck out 8 in 9 innings.

The Sand Gnats got a big hit from designated hitter Pete Crawford. Facing West Virginia pitcher António Encarnación in the top of the ninth, Crawford pounded a 3-run home run to center. His 6th home run of the season put the Sand Gnats ahead, 19-5.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Simpson.

The Sand Gnats bumped their record to 68-56 with this win.
