The West Virginia Power defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws, 4-2, at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia was led by 23-year old catcher Manny Escobar, who went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. West Virginia reliever Alex Samuels was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Kevin Rodgers. Ken Roy earned the save, his 3rd in 5 tries.
Escobar had a timely hit for West Virginia in the bottom of the sixth. With West Virginia trailing 2-0, he turned a 2-0 fastball into a grand slam home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season, making it 4-2, West Virginia.
"Whenever you can come through for your ball club, it's a great thing," said Escobar.
With the win, West Virginia raised its record to 40-40.
