Though he had a stellar game, Jon Bates could not prevent his team, the Lexington Legends, from losing, 5-4, to the Augusta GreenJackets. Bates went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The win was credited to 25-year old second baseman Sean Owens in relief. His record improves to 4-1. Dan Butler took the loss. Jerry White collected save number 12.

Augusta took a 5-4 lead on Tim Salsman's 7th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Salsman hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Lexington pitcher Dan Butler visibly frustrated.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Lexington manager Brad Lincoln said, following the tough loss.

The GreenJackets improved their record to 34-44 by beating Lexington.
