Tourists Use Late Score to Top Sand Gnats, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring game between Asheville and Savannah, pitcher Mike Piper was excellent. The Asheville right-hander helped his team knock off the Sand Gnats, 2-1. Jorge Alvarado earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record is now 2-1. With this game in the books, Asheville is 30-33, Savannah 37-26.
Reginald Estes was the walk-off hero for Asheville. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Tourists center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Savannah manager Tyler Colvin, "let me know."
