Mike Savage pitched well, but the Lakewood BlueClaws still lost the game, falling, 2-1, to the Kannapolis Intimidators at First Energy Park. Kannapolis reliever Tim Browning picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Mike Savage took the loss. Steve Murdoch collected save number 13.
The Intimidators got a big at-bat from right fielder Sammy Simmons. For the game, Simmons went 1-4 with a home run. In the top of the first, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Kannapolis a 1-0 lead.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Simmons said.
The Intimidators bumped their record to 36-26 with this latest triumph.
