The Kannapolis Intimidators got a superb performance from pitcher Joe Wood, but the Greensboro Grasshoppers still won the game, 5-3. Wood threw 6.1 innings allowing 3 runs. Ken Patrick earned the save for Greensboro, his 8th. The win elevated the Grasshoppers to 32-16.

It could have been a different outcome for Greensboro, had it not been for Jim McLaughlin, the 21-year old catcher . McLaughlin contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Greensboro up, 3-1.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," McLaughlin said after the game.
