Spirited fans greeted the Asheville Tourists for their clash with the Hickory Crawdads.

The Hickory Crawdads defeated the Asheville Tourists, 6-3, at McCormick Field. Hickory first baseman Mike Taylor had a superb performance. He was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Dan Townsley was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Ron Scott. Rob Kennedy earned the save for Hickory.

Hickory took a 5-2 lead on Joe Howgill's 7th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Howgill hit in the top of the seventh, left Asheville pitcher Ron Scott visibly frustrated.

Said Asheville manager Dave Turgeon: "They just got the better of us."

The win puts Hickory at 20-19 this season.
