Hickory starter José Hernández kept the Kannapolis offense from doing much damage. The right-hander leaned on his slider in leading the Crawdads to a 2-0 win. Hickory is now 16-19, while Kannapolis is 20-15.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Jim Chase? The Hickory catcher had a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning to put the Crawdads on top, 1-0. For the game, Chase had 1 double and 1 single in 2 at-bats.

"Runs were tough to come by," said Hernández. "But we scored just enough to win."
