The Kannapolis Intimidators could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Freddy Martínez into a win. Instead, the Delmarva Shorebirds prevailed, 3-1. Martínez threw 5.0 innings allowing 1 run. Chris Love, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. Earning his 10th save for Delmarva was Robinson García.

The Shorebirds got a big at-bat from left fielder Ron Doyle. For the game, Doyle was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Delmarva a 3-1 lead.

Doyle called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
