The Kannapolis Intimidators licked the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 5-3. Ron Mallard deserved a big chunk of the credit. The third baseman was 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while scoring 3 for the Intimidators. Eric Banks was the winner. He's now 1-1. The loser was 21-year old left-handed pitcher Dave Proulx. No one expected much of this team, but the hot start by Kannapolis might have some re-evaluating their pre-season predictions. This latest win lifts their record to 16-10.

It could have been a different outcome for Kannapolis, had it not been for Bernardo Díaz, the 21-year old left fielder . Díaz contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put Kannapolis up, 2-0.

Mallard attributed the win to his team's "concerted effort."
