Drive Slap 2-1 Loss on Charleston
|
Charleston got a valiant performance from pitcher Greg Saunders, but it wasn't enough to beat the Greenville Drive. Greenville won the game, 2-1. Saunders threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Steve Foster, the winner, goes to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts over 7.2 innings. Dan Bennett closed the door for Greenville, picking up his 2nd save of the year.
Ed Samuels drove in one run for Greenville. The 24-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Greg Saunders. It was his 1st RBI of the season.
"Bottom line," said Charleston skipper Brian Rupp, "we didn't play well enough to win."
The loss makes Charleston 1-4.
