Rome Hammers starter Stephen Millar kept the Hagerstown Suns hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 6-2 win. Millar, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Lou Riley closed it out for his 2nd save.
It could have been a different outcome for Rome, had it not been for Chip Lutz, the 22-year old shortstop . Lutz contributed a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put Rome up, 5-0.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Lutz told the Rome Chronicle.
Rome, with the win, is 2-1.
