BlueClaws Topple Grasshoppers, 9-5, as Russell Shines
The Lakewood BlueClaws beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 9-5, at NewBridge Bank Park. Bobby Russell, in particular, was impressive. He went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Picking up the win was Bob Williams. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits. The left--hander struck out 4 and walked 1. Jim Barker finished the game for Lakewood and earned his 1st save.

Ed Brooks had a big 2-run triple for the BlueClaws in the top of the second inning. With Lakewood trailing 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Bubba Shoemaker, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2023 draft, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the BlueClaws ahead, 2-1.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Russell.

Greensboro drops to 1-1.
