LumberKings Beat Kernels, 7-2
|
The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Clinton LumberKings riveted fans at Alliant Energy Field.
The Clinton LumberKings stifled the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 7-2, at Alliant Energy Field. Marc Morgan had his hitting cap on. He was 2-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for Clinton. Tomás García, the winner, goes to 2-1. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts over 7 innings.
Dana Spencer had a big 2-run double for the LumberKings in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Clinton leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher César Segura and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the LumberKings ahead, 4-0.
Spencer said the win provided a "big morale boost" for the team. "There's a good feeling in the clubhouse right now."
The 76-55 LumberKings lead the Western Division by one game.
